  • If my device is not waterproof and I can't take it poolside, once i've watched the video, how do I remember what to do in the pool?
    You can utilise the resources that supplement the videos for prompting and reminding when poolside. Simply print them and laminate or pop inside a ziplock bag.
  • Do I need to follow the skills in order?
    We highly recommend that you follow the skills in order. However, this doesn't mean if you are having trouble mastering a particular skill you can't move on and come back to that skill later. Some but not all skills if not mastered will prevent you from mastering the next skill, in this case be patient, persevere and utilise the forum for feedback and questions.
  • Can I practice somewhere other than a swimming pool?
    Yes, if your only access to water is via the ocean, a dam, river, creek or lake then feel free to practice in these. Of course, we recommend that you become familiar with the body of water before undertaking new activities, conduct a risk assessment, consider things like depths, currents, submerged objects and other potential hazards and always swim with a friend.
  • What if I feel unsafe?
    Stop immediately, all activities should be conducted when you are comfortable and ready. Seek the support of a friend and utilise our forum to ask questions.
  • How long does it take to learn/teach someone to swim?
    Unfortunately, this we can't answer as it all depends on you/the swimmer. What we do know is that the more you practice the quicker you will learn.
  • How often should I practice?
    As often as you can manage, the course is self-paced, complete it in your own time, there is no limit.
  • Can you teach me to be a competition swimmer?
    No. The videos are designed to teach the student how to swim, not how to swim competitively. On completion of the course the goal is for you to be able to swim a technically correct freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Swimming a stroke correctly will make you faster BUT we don't delve into the finer details of improving speed for racing.
  • What equipment will I need?
    A kickboard and goggles if you can't put your eyes in water without them. Other equipment discussed in any of our videos is optional and can sometimes be substituted with common household items. This is discussed further within the videos.
  • I have unique learning needs, is this suitable for me?
    We recommend you seek advice from your medical professional. We have tailored the videos to be as inclusive as possible, however, have not catered individually to specific abilities.
  • Should I practice in cold water?
    It is preferable that you practice in conditions that are comfortable to you, this will increase your chances of success. If you do not have access to warm water, consider clothing that retains heat and limit your exposure.
  • If I don't feel like I am making progress should I just give up?
    Absolutely not! We encourage you to persevere. If you feel frustrated, take a break, come back on another day when you feel fresh. Utilise our forum for feedback and encouragement.
  • Can you help me overcome my fear of water?
    Yes, I believe we can, the skills are learnt at your own pace, take all the time that you need to become comfortable. You might like to read some of our blogs for further advice in this area.
